Great news on your follow up test that all is OK. As a man with very elevated PSA but a negative biopsy it is leaves me with a feeling of constant turmoil. Although no cancer found after my biopsy I will always wonder, 'Did they just miss it by a hair's breadth?' I am watchful waiting so at least I am being monitored. Thank you for this detailed and informative story of your road back to health. For visitors to this blog... go get a PSA test, it might save your life.

Hi Rob, really interesting to find your site and glad you are doing well. I started a blog as soon as I was diagnosed this June so I am a bit behind you. I have put link details below. I am 58 and my dad died of it. I had a psa of 4.2 and gleason 7. The MRI showed it was still contained in the prostate but I have a bone scan tomorrow. Will find out the full score on 20th, next week. Your site is so well layed out and easy to navigate. Well done Best wishes, Dan.

Glad you are doing so well Rob. Your success is an inspiration to many others who dread hearing about cancer for the first time.
Learning about a real life experience is invaluable to anybody facing the same problem.

I think you should look at the work of Prof. Piechaud in Bordeaux.
My husband is 68 and had a similar op. We travelled home by car after 5 days, with a supply of catheter bags, by road and ferry with me driving of course. He was not entirley comfortable but the pain was controlled with paracetamol. His only complaint was the sticking plaster across his face and the blindfold. Usually he drives and I navigate and it is much the better arrangement all round.
The catheter was still in and the stitches of course. The stitches were removed by the district nurse and the catheter at the local hospital ward on the due dates. The main scar is on the bikini line and now barely visible and the smaller scars have faded. Since the catheter came out my husband has full bladder control so never needed nappies and was up and about pretty quickly.
What I wonder is the explantion for the difference between my husband's experience and the norm. in England?

My husband had his op. in France, not under the national Health of course but he had an altogether sucessful outcome, during the op and post op also. If anyone is in the early stages of dianosis and has access to rainy day money I would be pleased to go further into our experience. Gwen

Robert
This may not be a good time to contact you after the loss of your friend Dale Martin. Although I don't know you or Dale I wish you all the best in a difficult time.

I wanted to let you know that I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 53 and reading your blog has been very helpful to me. I have my meeting with Dr Brown at the Bridge Clinic next Monday and I am planning to ask Mr Laniado for the robot assisted nerve sparing radical prostatectomy when I see him in a weeks time.

If you wish, please email me, I would like to continue this discussion if you have the time.

Regards and best wishes
Ian

Hi.Just been sorting through Dale's emails and came across your bloggs. From your last blogg you sounded at a real low. I'm hoping you are now feeling better and still all clear after your treatment. Dale often mentioned you and was anxious if he hadn't heard from you in a while.
Hoping yourself and family have a lovely christmas and continue with your good health.
the days are long and lonely without dale, but will do our best to make the best of christmas.
Would love to hear from you to know that you are well.

regards
Vicki

What an interesting article!!!! Thanks for sharing.. my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and my heart went out to him and knowing his ordeal. I am 47 and recently did a PSA test only to learn that mine was quite high also and following which I had to do a biopsy which I heard the news of the Big C. I have been doing some research online and came across your website and am presently seeking doctors advice and seeing which will be the best possible treatment for my dad as well as for myself.

Your article has been a positive one and I truly appreciate your word by word account of all you went through. May God bless you and I hope other youngsters such as ourselves will get tested while its early.

Hi Robert,
I felt compelled to write as we share the same family name, my dad comes from Wales, and found your Blog interesting. I'm among the older group of men as I turned 70 this past summer. and was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Your biopsy was as difficult as mine and the results were cancer and treatment is to follow soon because of my age... even though I pride myself to be in great shape as I work out regularly. Thanks for the info provided and hope that you are in good health.
